The Joy of Bees BY: Margie Haack No one knows what’s caused this bee pandemic. It could be stress, an unknown virus, pesticides, or a combination of many things. The bees they do find and dissect from infected hives are full of mites and sick with every infection known to bee-dom. It’s as if their immune system is utterly collapsed and they have a kind of bee AIDS.
To Be Where You Are BY: Margie Haack The word gave me a little thrill, like finding an arrowhead in the sand, or an unclaimed piece of chocolate torte on the counter. Could this be God talking to me? I like to be blessed. I like a hand on my head with authority saying, “I bless you, extravagantly, lavishly.”
Bird Feeders BY: Denis Haack It’s hard to “let life pause.” Expect plenty of criticism—some of the most scathing from Christians—if you decide to cultivate this grace. And, for those who would like to cultivate it, I have a simple, practical suggestion: get a bird feeder.
Halloween: A Distinctly Christian Holiday BY: James Jordan It has become routine in October for some Christian schools to send out letters warning parents about the evils of Halloween, however we should not forget that originally Halloween was a Christian custom.
Loving Lesbian Neighbors: Discernment Exercise BY: Denis Haack As Christians we believe we should treat non-Christians as persons made in the image of God. Truth be told, this is easier with some non-Christians than with others.
Offensive Magazine Cover?: Discernment Exercise BY: Denis Haack Some readers of Discipleship Journal were offended by their January/February 2007 cover. Should they be offended? And how should we relate to Christians who have radically different responses to such things?
I love my neighbor as myself but only because I don’t much care for myself.
- Garrison Keillor
This web site is old and creaky. The email function functions poorly when it functions at all. Worse, it all looks old. So we are starting work on building a new site, and hope to have it functioning by fall.
Our vision will not change, nor will our attempt in this little spot of the Internet to invite you to join us in thinking about the things that matter most. Thanks for visiting.
