Ed Hague spacer Ed Hague
Board Member, Honorary

Ed Hague (MDiv from Trinity Evangelical) worked as a pastor for many years. He is currently an instructor of Bible at Christ Classical Academy in Tallahassee, Florida and the owner of MacPro Services. As a member of our board, we appreciate his gift for patiently loving difficult people, and we personally use him for all sorts of whining and degrees of crisis real or imagined. He's also the guy to keep us aware of the issues facing men and women who staff churches across the country. He joins us in our call to find meaningful ways of connecting the church to culture while maintaining orthodox Christianity.

Ed was responsible for splitting our household by convincing me to get a Mac when my old computer gave out. Denis remained a PC until he saw the light. Ed became our MacMentor and eventually imparted a sense of authority and calm so complete that when I approach my computer I no longer want to kill either myself or Bill Gates. Since this was an every day experience, you can see what a step toward maturity this has been.

Ed is married to Betsy and has four daughters: Mary Catherine, Andrea, Maggie, and Martha and one lovely granddaughter. He sees the beauty of Christ in all of them and is amazed.

Here are some random questions Ed answered:

1) What book most influenced your growth as a Christian? – Being Human: The Nature of Spiritual Experience by Macaulay and Barrs. As a young believer, this book helped to integrate my understanding of my humanity with my spirituality. A quote: “when we are truly spiritual we are fully human.” Amen.

2) What's your most expensive hobby? - In 1985 I bought my first Apple Macintosh computer, telling my wife that it was a "one time purchase." I went on to sell and repair Macintosh computers. Only now that I'm a certified professional MacPro has my wife conceded that my income earned is beginning to cover what my hobby has cost. Today we have 6 Macs in our home and an assortment of iPods. Steve Jobs will want more of my money soon – and I will gladly give it.

3) Do you have a habit you ever had to give up? - Lying. I've had an inordinate desire to please others to the degree that I am willing to deceive you so that you will continue to like me. God has addressed this issue in my life ruthlessly. By His grace, I'm becoming a truth teller and am learning to love others with honesty and integrity. This has been great liberation.

You can see why we'd want him on our board.

Last year (2013) at this time when our board was together for the annual meeting, we skyped with Ed, saying good-bye to him, amid tears and laughter, as he was dying from stage IV prostate cancer. He was too sick to join us and had tendered his resignation.
The amazing, the unpredicted, the strange thing is that after treatment with a powerful new drug he has regained enough energy and health to join us this year (2014) in Chicago. We did not expect to see him again this side of heaven, nor does anyone know how long he'll be around. We thank God every day that he is still with us and as impudent as ever, still pastoring us with a new mantra, "I'm dying and can say whatever I want to you." He will attend as a non-voting member but requests all his power be reinstated without the responsibilities. (We'll see about THAT, old man.)

spacer This web site is old and creaky. The email function functions poorly when it functions at all. Worse, it all looks old. So we are starting work on building a new site, and hope to have it functioning by fall.

Our vision will not change, nor will our attempt in this little spot of the Internet to invite you to join us in thinking about the things that matter most. Thanks for visiting.
